Week Six

Georges Seurat

Georges Seurat was a 19th Century French painter, and a founder of the neo-imppresionism movement. This style is arguably my favorite, aside from the renaissance.

Mini Project

"What is American Culture?"

1) I believe American culture, as a whole, is currently at an extremely low point. We value "celebrities" to such an extent, that one is the GOP candidate for president. Most people could more easily name the Kardashians than can name their own Representatives, and Popular music is mostly just incoherent mumbling. I think, on a local level, true american values like innovation and expression are thriving. For my project, I'd like to focus on these local values and culture. I don't specifically mean local to our region, but localized culture and movements around the nation. I don't know how I'm going to convey this on paper or canvass as yet.

2) I've been working on this project over the weekend, but am no closer to being done. I tried painting, but the end product didn't really represent American culture. I am going to work on it some more today.

Continued week 7.
